Woman Wins Millions From Texas Lottery for 4th Time

Corpus Christi, TX, Jul 6 : Once, twice, three times a Texas lottery millionaire -- now it's four.
Joan R. Ginther, a native of Bishop, Texas, made her fourth appearance Monday at lottery headquarters in Austin to collect seven figures, lottery officials said.

Ginther, 63, won $10 million, the top prize in Texas Lottery's $140,000,000 Extreme Payout scratch-off ticket she bought for $50, pushing her total wins to $20.4 million.

It was her third time to win on a ticket from a Bishop store, and second one at the Times Market there.

"This is a very lucky store," said Bob Solis, store manager.

Store owner Sun Bae is the one with the lucky hand, Solis said. "Sun sold both the winning tickets to the woman."

The store, which sells about 1,000 lottery tickets daily, now is eligible to receive a bonus of $10,000 for the second time.

In 1993 Ginther first won a $5.4 million share of an $11 million Lotto Texas jackpot for a ticket bought in Bishop. She opted for annual payments of $270,000 (excluding tax charges) for 19 years.

The cost of her lottery ticket could not be determined.

On year 13, while visiting Bishop to care for her father in 2006, Ginther won the top prize of $2 million in the Holiday Millionaire game thanks to a $30 scratch-off ticket.

Ginther requested a lump-sum payment of about $1.5 million, after the 25 percent taken by the commission for taxes.

In 2008, she collected a $3 million prize in Millions and Millions, another scratch-off, at the same Times Market where she won this week. That scratch-off ticket's cost also was not reported.

Ginther, who now lives in Las Vegas, requested minimal publicity, according to the Texas lottery commission, and could not be reached Friday.

Gleeful Americans have already began to take the mick out of the hapless keeper in a series of internet virals.

One such viral has Green scrambling to save the ball as it trickes over the line, with the caption: 'Soccer and oil spills: England just can't contain them.'

Another show's TouTube celebrity 'OMG Cat' watching Green's error with its increasingly horrified expression.

Some others, however, are a little less amusing.

One viral shows a series of idyllic photos of American life - a day at the beach, a pretty woman cooking, cute animals - against images of riots in Britain and burning buildings.

The caption, for reasons known only to the viral artist, reads 'It's a tie: nobody care here'.

Rob Green's nightmare started when Clint Dempsey cleverly spun away from Gerrard on 38 minutes, and sized up to shoot, and drove the ball towards the goal.

As it was not the sweetest strike in the world, most believed Green would scoop it up with little effort.

Not so funny: This particular viral apparently highlights the difference between lifestyles in the U.S. and Britain

Inexplicably, however, Green fumbled the ball and it trickled into the back of the net. Green was left to collapse on the ground, his head in his hands, as Dempsey wheeled away in celebration.

It will be an often replayed moment of this year's World Cup, and one that Green will have to live with - but one that Americans will savour with each viewing.

The American press, for example, went so far as to say that last night's match was one of the best in World Cup history.

In a breathless critique, The New York Post said: 'In true revolutionary style, the underdog Americans came from behind and blasted the powerful Brits to a nail-biting 1-1 draw yesterday, in one of the all-time great World Cup soccer battles.'

A 33-year-old single mother has filed a lawsuit against Citigroup, after Citibank allegedly fired her for being too attractive.

Debrahlee Lorenzana claims that she was let go from the New York branch of the bank after being told that her choice of clothes made her 'too distracting' in the largely male-dominated office.

Ms Lorenzana's lawsuit alleges that her bosses told her 'as a result of the shape of her figure, such clothes were purportedly 'too distracting' for her male colleagues and supervisors to bear'.

The Puerto Rican banker says she was given a list of clothes she would no longer be able to wear - including pencil skirts, fitted suits and polo necks.

But Ms Lorenzana told New York newspaper The Village Voice it is her right to dress as she wishes, as long as it is a professionally-appropriate outfit.

She said: 'I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I said, "You gotta be kidding me! I was like, Too distracting? For who? For you? My clients don't seem to have any problem."

'Where I'm from, women dress up - like put on makeup and do their nails - to go to the supermarket..

'I was raised very Latin. We're feminine. A woman in Puerto Rico takes care of herself.'

Ms Lorenzana's lawyer Jack Tuckner said he believes the case is self-explanatory.

He explained: 'It's like saying that we can't think anymore because our penises are standing up - and we cannot think about you except in a sexual manner - and we can't look at you without wanting to have sexual intercourse with you.

'And it's up to you, gorgeous woman, to lessen your appeal so that we can focus!'

Ms Lorenzana claims she was given a list of clothes she wasn't allowed to wear in the office

As well as some 'conservative' photos taken by Mr Tuckner, Ms Lorezana's lawsuit includes evidence of a meeting when she was told by her two managers that her trousers were too tight, and photos of other employees dressed in provocative clothes.

She added: 'I could have worn a paper bag, and it would not have mattered. If it wasn't my shirt, it was my pants.

'If it wasn't my pants, it was my shoes. They picked on me every single day.'

The fitted clothes and flattering suits favoured by Ms Lorenzana have made a comeback recently thanks to hit U.S. TV show Mad Men.

But, judging from this lawsuit, women such as Christina Hendricks' character Joan Holloway would cause a bit of a stir in today's society.

However, because Ms Lorenzana was required to sign a mandatory-arbitration clause before she began her job at Citibank, the case will never end up in front of a jury or a judge.

An arbirtrator will decide the result of the lawsuit.

A statement from Citigroup read: 'We believe this lawsuit is without merit and we will defend against it vigorously.

'We respect the privacy of all of our employees and therefore cannot comment more specifically on this litigation, this former employee's overall performance, or the reasons for her termination - which an arbitration panel must resolve.

'Citi is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and providing a respectful environment in the workplace. We have a strong commitment to diversity and we do not condone, or tolerate, discrimination within our business for any reason.'

"Amityville Horror" House On Sale For $1.15 Million

Amityville, (NY), May 25 : The house made famous in the 1979 film "The Amityville Horror" is up for sale in New York – ghosts not included.

The five-bedroom Dutch Colonial went on the market Monday for $1.15 million.

The Oscar-nominated film is based on the story of the Lutz family's brief stay in the house in 1975 after six members of the DeFeo family were shot and killed as they slept in the home. Eldest son Ronald DeFeo Jr. was convicted of the murders.

The crime spawned a book and a series of movies that chronicled various supernatural horrors, including visions of walls oozing slime, moving furniture and a visit from a demonic pig named Jodie. The original film stars James Brolin and Margot Kidder.

A Chinese college professor has been jailed for running a sex club, whose members were the first to be convicted of "group licentiousness" in 20 years, media reported on Friday.

Ma Yaohai, a 53-year-old computer science professor, was jailed for three and a half years after pleading not guilty to holding orgies and said he would appeal against his sentence, the official China News Service said.

"What we did, we did for our own happiness," Ma told media at a news conference in April at his home, where 14 of his 18 orgies, or "swinging games" as he called them, were held.

"People chose to do it of their own free will and they knew they could stop at any time," he said at the time. "We disturbed no one.

"Marriage is like water. You have to drink it. Swinging is like a cup of wine. You can drink it if you like. If you don't like it, don't drink it."

Eighteen people charged with taking part in the orgies were jailed for up to two and half years.

"Ma received a more severe punishment because he did not admit the malicious and illegal nature of his conduct," the court in eastern Nanjing said.

Ma started his online group in 2007. Participants included office workers, taxi drivers and sales clerks. They were arrested after five were caught having a "party" in a hotel room last August.

Ma's case has sparked debate on whether group licentiousness should be scratched from the law books.

"If noone is being harmed, people's privacy should be protected," one sociologist was quoted as saying.

Others felt Ma's conduct was outrageous.

"Law is based on respect for traditional customs and civilised ethics," said a columnist named Zhi Feng on Xinhuanet.com. "They confounded right and wrong and poisoned the social atmosphere. How dare you say they did no harm to others?"

Julio Aparicio, one of Spain's most famous matadors, was gored in the throat today during a bullfight. The horrific injury has left him in critical condition:

"[The horn] went though the tongue and penetrated the roof of the mouth, fracturing the jawbone," one of the medics who worked on Aparicio told AFP news in Madrid.

[UPDATE: After two operations, it appears leading surgeon Maximo Garcia Pedros has saved Aparicio's life. The bull, however, was quickly killed by other matadors.] The incident took place during the Festival of Saint Isidro, considered to be the most important event in the bullfighting calendar, at the Plaza de Toros las Ventas bullring, which can seat up to 24,000 people.
